With a change in leadership at my day-job, I have been very busy at work, but trust me when I say, I've been Very Busy at ArtWork, too!<br />
<br />
I've had a group show of my work, I started a new little series, of course I've been sewing massive amounts of clothing for myself, my mom, and dear daughter!<br />
<br />
Rather than go into alot, I'll just share pictures! More to come!<br />

<br />
This summer, I've been going through my stash of thrift shop finds, cutting things up, trying out new designs, and generally having a wonderful time. So far this month, here are about half of what I've made up:<br />

Dresses, tops, slips with lace and ruffles to wear under other things.....I usually finish at least 1 piece every day this month! <br />
<br />
My next project will be to re-organize all my fabric storage, since things have gotten a bit too jumbled to easily find what I'm looking for, and to think about having a "Supply Reduction Sale"...but that's for July!RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-64947015025053132992016-03-16T09:34:00.000-07:002016-03-16T09:34:09.328-07:00Spring Break fun in the Art BarnLast week I was on Spring Break from the museum job, although of course there were things I still took care of. I did manage to do some fun things for me!<br />
<br />
I've had lots of fun going thru the Yarn stash, knitting up these little hipster hats...I can see these covering up those man-buns, can't you? Although I did make one for myself, because they're comfy and warm, and easy to wear.(that's the hubby, being a good sport)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2EunCkg9fGqTQHeqi0VHEm5h_6HrUNdyiPBiidWP72PwX1rzgYqDY3n2PdKM7pTvYav9zCGdgPRbdWz8S-gcz351pTMlQDOg49_974IYywH-ngBt3_koFdomEw3A3SWVB8lD-D5NcNesc/s1600/2016-03-05+14.08.59.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2EunCkg9fGqTQHeqi0VHEm5h_6HrUNdyiPBiidWP72PwX1rzgYqDY3n2PdKM7pTvYav9zCGdgPRbdWz8S-gcz351pTMlQDOg49_974IYywH-ngBt3_koFdomEw3A3SWVB8lD-D5NcNesc/s320/2016-03-05+14.08.59.jpg" /></a> <br />

I splurged at the fabric store and found this great textured knit to make a cute little dress for Dear Daughter...I can see it with a skinny black belt, and maybe even a jacket or shrug. There are nice pockets, too, always handy!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoHfzQWRxlJf4VYoVcmw_C7GaQyCYSg3aMpr3ThsTjYQqjE7HEBdAYzMOKzqDfDAu7lbA9OQ5ndQkkRnT9dQVA4A6XKSBT4As45_e1ybdTGs9VL7Tg1uId2ul0aDEdPEJrfQr0H9vNxO_u/s1600/2016-03-11+13.31.12.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoHfzQWRxlJf4VYoVcmw_C7GaQyCYSg3aMpr3ThsTjYQqjE7HEBdAYzMOKzqDfDAu7lbA9OQ5ndQkkRnT9dQVA4A6XKSBT4As45_e1ybdTGs9VL7Tg1uId2ul0aDEdPEJrfQr0H9vNxO_u/s320/2016-03-11+13.31.12.jpg" /></a>><br />
<br />
Made myself a basic grey tank dress for layering in any season, <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_7li-bVFP6XP8zUraVQZax1izVZf4-E33QMlcXax87ejbZuqTDiPpSySDv_ENTsZJOTIUXXDVGHY3qzVADcCsCWfWVBFMS6qb17ccUH9syMGa0rKZytBw_sVg8RnZpC-onmgjhhdYxZZz/s1600/2016-03-06+14.44.49.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_7li-bVFP6XP8zUraVQZax1izVZf4-E33QMlcXax87ejbZuqTDiPpSySDv_ENTsZJOTIUXXDVGHY3qzVADcCsCWfWVBFMS6qb17ccUH9syMGa0rKZytBw_sVg8RnZpC-onmgjhhdYxZZz/s320/2016-03-06+14.44.49.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
and this burn-out knit was perfect, in white/black/cobalt and a nice purple-y mauve. I'm thinking over capri leggings and cami this summer!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvEuvvk_9YL5NNhPGjVEskppuHRRvRqvKDjFidYnwBbSk8UXswaf69TP6vDrBPAwby1TrKXGzIBgSDWPeOiaWXeQEXeytKgsI5vco2E4p5LFR-pekjbBzNMnGokYIIMGsqFax9G39Aj9Mo/s1600/2016-03-06+14.45.30.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvEuvvk_9YL5NNhPGjVEskppuHRRvRqvKDjFidYnwBbSk8UXswaf69TP6vDrBPAwby1TrKXGzIBgSDWPeOiaWXeQEXeytKgsI5vco2E4p5LFR-pekjbBzNMnGokYIIMGsqFax9G39Aj9Mo/s320/2016-03-06+14.45.30.jpg" /></a>><br />
<br />
I also cut up a washed and shrunken boiled wool jacket, it has great embroidery all over it. I love my little monster pouches, but had in my mind something else....Lips! What else for holding my Burt's Bees lip gloss??!<br />

So many, many events in the family, but the bottom line is, I've neglected the blog!<br />
<br />
So....<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVTyZeSK8rWzIyeqiuBJEqxqAjgJuf5C9VALLCOUMV4YXqa1OkHTkKZ6qKkxEfUCSbwTCZzv_U2nEcEhTZa9RibQNVikyU3BfgCjxS4aMaQwb4EqY44euJf2ug_IXqY6ZVWvOoEJXF9W5y/s1600/fireflies-full.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVTyZeSK8rWzIyeqiuBJEqxqAjgJuf5C9VALLCOUMV4YXqa1OkHTkKZ6qKkxEfUCSbwTCZzv_U2nEcEhTZa9RibQNVikyU3BfgCjxS4aMaQwb4EqY44euJf2ug_IXqY6ZVWvOoEJXF9W5y/s320/fireflies-full.jpg" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSQVz-8ikxOFvO3GbD9y1C9kdTsqOiw7fEU9gqt0Ten1WE4jFuVQefCWsIfgTRzKtMz61iphu3WQ0TjkysmRK3YDThqPSk-S7rih4cvk62sE2ZPes7jZlGt8nOMVldu1uLbaknaUd72nnY/s1600/fireflies+hands+detail2.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSQVz-8ikxOFvO3GbD9y1C9kdTsqOiw7fEU9gqt0Ten1WE4jFuVQefCWsIfgTRzKtMz61iphu3WQ0TjkysmRK3YDThqPSk-S7rih4cvk62sE2ZPes7jZlGt8nOMVldu1uLbaknaUd72nnY/s320/fireflies+hands+detail2.jpg" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnFSr_rxzliZ0JvcwTtHNOuZJY12fTt0xOj0RWvTksGXAIjQLUykEDGLhpITqq8kR1mZhIZ5q5ymVHFmw0Sy1XPHNUEs3_JaElGFL1zWDdisEYu8g1h10ryXoUXXZGfcYOZBQpw2oLA4pu/s1600/firefiles-poem+detail.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnFSr_rxzliZ0JvcwTtHNOuZJY12fTt0xOj0RWvTksGXAIjQLUykEDGLhpITqq8kR1mZhIZ5q5ymVHFmw0Sy1XPHNUEs3_JaElGFL1zWDdisEYu8g1h10ryXoUXXZGfcYOZBQpw2oLA4pu/s320/firefiles-poem+detail.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
I finally finished the Spirit House quilt! Here's some photos, although since it was taken, I have gone in and added 3 more little houses on the hill, just to really finish it out. I wrote the haiku myself, and when I finally decided on the hands, it all came together really quickly. I'm very pleased with the results.<br />
<br />
<br />
I've had fun at some craft shows, and whipped up some little monster pouches from recycled thrift shop sweaters. Zippers for mouths, buttons for eyes....they are so funny to play with!<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6_wg2TNmHK_Vd_8ofQAPKBqaByyDv2B6e7mpgW9nxYUIKJ71VBUM6PhTGndT3ez7W6E_cFJUdZv4X_D3OPtzg99QXpBm94ffCEkdJfLL8duEprwHYaRXAYkN9Ae1_-uQ6-N0TDlSrHcqm/s1600/2015-11-28+18.46.52.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6_wg2TNmHK_Vd_8ofQAPKBqaByyDv2B6e7mpgW9nxYUIKJ71VBUM6PhTGndT3ez7W6E_cFJUdZv4X_D3OPtzg99QXpBm94ffCEkdJfLL8duEprwHYaRXAYkN9Ae1_-uQ6-N0TDlSrHcqm/s320/2015-11-28+18.46.52.jpg" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLkVxoEXy0hq7YFjGT8upVcsVqYwkUFz5s_yxL3jNdG41nnrXR2kHwu5h76Clyq1TNLBr-eOgKz4mkhogphjfKeF_OXaczRgVchw3_77skS6FIXRAFtOnPQ8TfiV78ZOIJf9CaHVnLcnA7/s1600/2015-11-30+02.30.17.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLkVxoEXy0hq7YFjGT8upVcsVqYwkUFz5s_yxL3jNdG41nnrXR2kHwu5h76Clyq1TNLBr-eOgKz4mkhogphjfKeF_OXaczRgVchw3_77skS6FIXRAFtOnPQ8TfiV78ZOIJf9CaHVnLcnA7/s320/2015-11-30+02.30.17.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
I've been getting rid of all the Red Panty clothing, and have stopped sewing up any new cashmere kitties....I feel the need to change directions. I'm not sure if I'll still make clothing to sell: I'm still looking inside myself, figuring out where I need to go from here.<br />
<br />
I've been winnowing out the Art Barn, because it's becoming quite the dumping ground...between moving Dear Daughter home this summer after graduate school, friends making "donations" of various items, accumulating vast amounts of supplies, whatever, it's just TIME to clean it up! I looked at photos of the Art Barn, after I finally got it all fixed up and situated, and I long to return to that state of cleanliness! So that's my goal, to get it finished by New Year's. <br />
<br />
What's YOUR end-of-the-year resolution?<br />
<br />

Artwork that I "pin", or admire, or really, really like is so much better than mine. I feel mine is rather cartoony, which isn't a bad description considering my life is very much like the Simpsons! But, it IS mine, and for what it's worth, it's on display at the bottom of the stairwell in Courtright Library at Otterbein! <br />

I was happy to get the Panty quilts out in public again, it's been awhile!<br />

I do feel happy with this particular piece, <i>Watch What You Say</i>. The shiny bits are the inside of a chip bag. The open mouth is printed on vellum, and the old diagram lines connect to my sewn lines leading to the words "hate" and "lies", which have the big red "NOT" circles on them. Click on the photo to see it more clearly.<br />

Lots of other words on this one, too....."mirror, mirror"; "mind your tongue"; "do you like what you see?".<br />
<br />
I also finished the central piece in this grouping...I don't consider them a triptych, but they hang together nicely. "Redbuds" because I love them in the spring!<br />

There will be a little reception on Sunday, April 19th 2-4pm, so if you're around, stop by! The show will be up until the middle or end of June.<br />

(a little morality tale)One week from today, I'll be hanging a little show of my work in the basement of Otterbein's library. I so wanted to have all new work to hang, although I certainly have more than enough already to have a nice selection. <br />
<br />
I tried to make the little houses piece work; I thought about it, I fussed about it, I dreamt about it. This morning, I did embroider the moon....<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjihok-DJhnc6JssegSLk-Mn-C1JfV0m51ieT5jc2GTtiIsLsH1H20rAftUJ9UJS0tIBvqzHtPs9z6NwSkoxRxVJ7SM4zhwq6dnqqWvz9LKhi_YHZKcArusBNWqXQiSwmPMk6ma0gAnynEs/s1600/DSCN2228.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjihok-DJhnc6JssegSLk-Mn-C1JfV0m51ieT5jc2GTtiIsLsH1H20rAftUJ9UJS0tIBvqzHtPs9z6NwSkoxRxVJ7SM4zhwq6dnqqWvz9LKhi_YHZKcArusBNWqXQiSwmPMk6ma0gAnynEs/s320/DSCN2228.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
....but I finally realized why I can't finish it right now. Too dark, to Halloween-y! That's not where I am, especially today, the first lovely day of the year, temps up to the 60's, not sunny, but not rainy. So, I decided to let Mr. Moon rest for awhile, til I feel more like fall, and start something else. <br />
<br />
Success! Two little pieces halfway finished, one of wisteria and one of cherry blossoms. They're each about 21" tall x 10" wide. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkcL4Il4E9qDXe4TY3kik8n9XHKfGuYQACMakqH0SOFk8p9rVv4Q7ogGZmzbZ0IrkBFe4i3yUb386k8Ku_g7WWleuY5SSqN-jhdvjW2ffG-aOf09D9_ueT8R06TJy7I4kOkhGNGeBc2Eg3/s1600/DSCN2224.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkcL4Il4E9qDXe4TY3kik8n9XHKfGuYQACMakqH0SOFk8p9rVv4Q7ogGZmzbZ0IrkBFe4i3yUb386k8Ku_g7WWleuY5SSqN-jhdvjW2ffG-aOf09D9_ueT8R06TJy7I4kOkhGNGeBc2Eg3/s320/DSCN2224.JPG" /></a><br />
I've decided to make a much larger piece as a companion, with flowers in it. Foxglove, maybe coneflowers, maybe lavendar. I can decide tomorrow. But as I watched the news showing photos of the Ohio River cresting and beginning to recede, I feel the same way, that dam of frozen ideas has finally given way to some warm, flowing inspiration!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimrh5VEvpMuJsgd-KRqHziSnKyN1_7rnFHaD7iKYYV8zYAEfOy6sQ4FSTjhaJLXqB6jhcwB-BIqDKfII6kssBGHghZeUV1szX2dqP2VUVEt2kAYKLwc8sOaJ5u1Amt_YkAc1mzSJHOA-0o/s1600/DSCN2225.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimrh5VEvpMuJsgd-KRqHziSnKyN1_7rnFHaD7iKYYV8zYAEfOy6sQ4FSTjhaJLXqB6jhcwB-BIqDKfII6kssBGHghZeUV1szX2dqP2VUVEt2kAYKLwc8sOaJ5u1Amt_YkAc1mzSJHOA-0o/s320/DSCN2225.JPG" /></a><br />

What is the moral of this story? Don't force it. Don't try to jump and stomp on the debris blocking your flow....just relax. Put it away. Give yourself permission to go in a completely different direction, one that is open and unimpeded by expectations or the baggage we bring. You'll find your way back by coming at it from another side, later, when you're ready. In the meantime, you can still find joy and create beauty in other ways!RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-24417121178374387012015-02-10T08:19:00.002-08:002015-02-10T08:19:46.203-08:00Altar Cloth & Paraments: Dedicated!Sunday was the dedication/blessing of the completed parament set for First Presbyterian Church! Liturgical cloth with appliqueYay, I'm done! This was actually quite enjoyable, and felt really great to be contributing to the overall worship experience. Here's photos:<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwpCq-RZQ5v9mJIE4RAiGYOmalQOiV3zeP_fLyYcSft4o4WfiPW_nrGicsyUSZXae-HPy27XuYcVNXdfbSJS46YdLLX9nN609JoLCZJwcwAMlpM6YsoGZt0E7owshI497DEJ8xUEcOC6wk/s1600/design+for+applique.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwpCq-RZQ5v9mJIE4RAiGYOmalQOiV3zeP_fLyYcSft4o4WfiPW_nrGicsyUSZXae-HPy27XuYcVNXdfbSJS46YdLLX9nN609JoLCZJwcwAMlpM6YsoGZt0E7owshI497DEJ8xUEcOC6wk/s320/design+for+applique.jpg" /></a> of the sketch for the applique to go on one side of the altar drape. <br />
<br />
<br />
Then there's the photo of the applique pieces I created from fabric.....<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8b4pcIr11wsRNEwLwBx3pNTifM83hB639MQ3l0egImRLdy31xf-raMpv4GN0QiNVkjfrmF6SiLosFfKrzP2aADWrvMBib7KiBDAEbFioHiS2-RUxLQ2JveqBZUsdinci7XFSY_W0gXGd7/s1600/applique.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8b4pcIr11wsRNEwLwBx3pNTifM83hB639MQ3l0egImRLdy31xf-raMpv4GN0QiNVkjfrmF6SiLosFfKrzP2aADWrvMBib7KiBDAEbFioHiS2-RUxLQ2JveqBZUsdinci7XFSY_W0gXGd7/s320/applique.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
There's the completed applique, waiting for the gold thread embroidery....<br />
<br />

and here's the finished cloth! The church will use them for the first time next Sunday, and they've invited me to attend their worship service. I'm so glad, I wanted to get a picture of the whole set in place, so I'll share that next week.<br />

Yay! Another chance to keep all those resolutions (didn't make any) pay all those bills, (working on it!) achieve all those goals! (sooo many goals!)<br />
<br />
After lots of crafting for Christmas, I have started a sweater for ME, but I've had to take a time out...<br />
<br />
Working on a commission for a local church, for a new set of Paraments (altar cloth, bookmark, and lectern scarf) for their Ordinary Time. That means, Green! Lent & Advent are purple, special days like Easter & Christmas are often white, Pentecost can be Red, etc.<br />
<br />
So, after a very fun day at the fabric store, and about 10 different 1 yard samples of green fabrics, I settled on a combination of a cool green & gold brocade paired with a printed textural cotton. I'm thinking about the juxtaposition of the mundane and the divine, the ordinary and extraordinary, our daily, imperfect lives, and the sacred, holy ideal life we strive for.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNJ9IBzKip5tzZ_T0w9fWQa34bk-U6WJ5dO6YaRH2ehmhygEoD514xrLD99stBqX_1olBwhRvpTFWihAOeX1TrRLFl6XQqMGVIObFDZCCFdw_uuvBCEAs1mlLpu8yAopmXQhoU3g_QJNbd/s1600/DSCN2133.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNJ9IBzKip5tzZ_T0w9fWQa34bk-U6WJ5dO6YaRH2ehmhygEoD514xrLD99stBqX_1olBwhRvpTFWihAOeX1TrRLFl6XQqMGVIObFDZCCFdw_uuvBCEAs1mlLpu8yAopmXQhoU3g_QJNbd/s320/DSCN2133.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
This is a pic of the Lectern scarf, prepared as the sample for the church committee and it shows the style of patchwork I'm doing. Here's a sketch of the altar cloth, which is now actually a finished top, ready to be appliqued this weekend with grapes and wheat instead of a cross and flames. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRpROblAX1bwPibL7I8Xkihid9mdi9wEYZe3-2H6v8fLSvZiuHoTpt4CnOTisceyeOEBcUojPiwb6i5juFRgwa_Tv-VH6ApfvnIjfFxhZQeeiHYHennAZ4jyOd21YwSa6XK5_6sOrdOXvA/s1600/1st+presbyterian.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRpROblAX1bwPibL7I8Xkihid9mdi9wEYZe3-2H6v8fLSvZiuHoTpt4CnOTisceyeOEBcUojPiwb6i5juFRgwa_Tv-VH6ApfvnIjfFxhZQeeiHYHennAZ4jyOd21YwSa6XK5_6sOrdOXvA/s320/1st+presbyterian.jpeg" /></a><br />
<br />
Many yards of fabric, to be sure, but it's been kind of fun. I did have to switch from my beloved Bernina 1120 to the 1948 Singer Featherweight my mom gave me a few years ago when the Bernina started to protest last weekend. Squeaky, clunky noises are not good! So she's in the shop, getting a "super head cleaning". I'm sure she needs cleaned & oiled, because I really put her to use.<br />
<br />
Next up: working on the new quilts for my exhibit at Otterbein, and trying to sneak in more clothing to sell.RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-19202302072225207452014-12-17T08:03:00.000-08:002014-12-17T08:03:03.888-08:00Gifts and SuchA good start on winter time creating....did a few craft shows this fall and it was quite fun! Made a custom cashmere kitty for a friend of little brother, she really liked it! And now wants a custom cashmere fox, holding not the classic bunch of grapes, but some sausage links...I'm sure there's a story there!<br />

Knitting little treasures for Christmas: lots of pretty washcloths, to pair with some handmade soaps I bought at a craft show. Some llama and alpaca wristwarmers, 'cause they just feel so nice. And a little pair of orange traffic cones, for said little brother to place on his desk at work. Don't tell him, though, they're supposed to be a surprise!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR01yZhXLGSdgUaWk_L8YEdXvmM50_UpBmZ32sDQjF-jAofheA0ceL3h7PIBeIJa_2mEtYnYZE0mN90P4aF1GOKUK8UGIasaYepHcuML0vzOEkcDUnZ5IgEFlEcniwHg4C2UfZTCuSp0bY/s1600/knitting1.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR01yZhXLGSdgUaWk_L8YEdXvmM50_UpBmZ32sDQjF-jAofheA0ceL3h7PIBeIJa_2mEtYnYZE0mN90P4aF1GOKUK8UGIasaYepHcuML0vzOEkcDUnZ5IgEFlEcniwHg4C2UfZTCuSp0bY/s320/knitting1.jpg" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNHp-8H6gZXpxQDOqWQlcz-OVfUHixKu039Y3p4st9-K0yP0QxxzJi1A1rIngIpVWp_kCfMK4oTgarNzBf7RGSI6rip8xlFDSNYIIDGRq1fmXYtN-y78h1O7eNy8bkwS4rnY07hD9H0Ahh/s1600/knitting2.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNHp-8H6gZXpxQDOqWQlcz-OVfUHixKu039Y3p4st9-K0yP0QxxzJi1A1rIngIpVWp_kCfMK4oTgarNzBf7RGSI6rip8xlFDSNYIIDGRq1fmXYtN-y78h1O7eNy8bkwS4rnY07hD9H0Ahh/s320/knitting2.jpg" /></a>RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-53462660534535853412014-09-29T08:31:00.000-07:002014-09-29T08:31:42.584-07:00Spirit Houses and BleachYes, I realize it has been 6 months since I have updated the blog....and yet it doesn't seem like much time at all! Let's jump right in....<br />
<br />
I have been invited to share my quilts in April 2015, in a tiny little alumni gallery at Otterbein, now a University, when I graduated, a College. It's tucked underneath the stairs on the lower level of the Courtright Library, but it's sweet nonetheless. They specifically asked me about my work recycling fabrics from thrift shop clothing. Since normally that is the focus of my clothing, rather than the quilts, I'm creating more artwork just for them.<br />
<br />
I visited the Otterbein thrift shop a couple time for materials, I puttered around all summer in the Art Barn, but this weekend, finally, I got started. I used some discharge paste and the stamps I created last year at QSDS on a scrap of linen skirt, and the sleeve from a man's shirt. I'm thinking along the lines of "spirit houses", places in the mind where we hold memories of cherished people, places, events and moments. The spirit of those memories live on in their houses, but sometimes we forget to visit them for long stretches of time. Sometimes, we even forget who or what lives in the little house there in the back. So I'm trying to investigate!<br />
<br />
Here is the discharged fabric.....<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMqJ6gUYPNEN9J5y8QFmUwO9V64p63Gn10zGChQ62bfxrepCOW3kckz-u6kIOSKTAO1J0B4fNB4lItJP7H8Yi52HXHVN_dTdLcr_AqOY9XKArvvfmR61e3ktrjgBprLL9KR0RTI-V75M-q/s1600/spirithouse2.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMqJ6gUYPNEN9J5y8QFmUwO9V64p63Gn10zGChQ62bfxrepCOW3kckz-u6kIOSKTAO1J0B4fNB4lItJP7H8Yi52HXHVN_dTdLcr_AqOY9XKArvvfmR61e3ktrjgBprLL9KR0RTI-V75M-q/s320/spirithouse2.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi663nwmdxjrKZR_izEkJ6Grb22YKngN_RGGYSOe4MaK6DKGPaIDoULcnA7-gKWHNDM6g029kxnuFVmiKwW9R0a-FoBe-aCzmn1Z_BazaTh5Fgy6IClmkZ-PtdKYQV0WDOdje3cxc01LKZP/s1600/spirithouse3.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi663nwmdxjrKZR_izEkJ6Grb22YKngN_RGGYSOe4MaK6DKGPaIDoULcnA7-gKWHNDM6g029kxnuFVmiKwW9R0a-FoBe-aCzmn1Z_BazaTh5Fgy6IClmkZ-PtdKYQV0WDOdje3cxc01LKZP/s320/spirithouse3.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
....and here is the first stage of the first piece. I've laid out the backing fabric, batting, and the background of the face of the quilt, and I'm going to do some of the quilting next. Then I will begin layering the focal point, a larger "spirit house", and as I do, I'm hoping I will make the final decision regarding exactly who or what lives in this particular house. That big light circle at the top is a really lovely silvery gray piece of oriental satin from the Otterbein thrift, from Hong Kong or so the selvedge says, and represents the silvery moon.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIQd72J9_dxARbhyJRhWDuTX_bC8H-rjBq_CG__2EUQa_LutBRihdvHzo5OzQLerf9MvqcwjrXeXUR0k4b6qFd3PASR_K2pyLRP0srFqRmMTeRafRd-eP3EBeLh0_4BakJlNb8B89Sck8q/s1600/DSCN2096.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIQd72J9_dxARbhyJRhWDuTX_bC8H-rjBq_CG__2EUQa_LutBRihdvHzo5OzQLerf9MvqcwjrXeXUR0k4b6qFd3PASR_K2pyLRP0srFqRmMTeRafRd-eP3EBeLh0_4BakJlNb8B89Sck8q/s320/DSCN2096.JPG" /></a>RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-43962033536159891232014-03-07T09:20:00.000-08:002014-03-07T09:20:21.482-08:00Old School Selfie and New Repurposed ClothingI don't have a smart phone.....I'm not that smart, plus, I have a really old, grandfathered cellphone account that gives me 5 phones for under $130. I keep checking and talking with them, but if I switch to smartness, my bill goes up over $100, and that's just for 1 smart phone! Yikes! <br />
<br />
So...this is me wearing my recycled cashmere and men's shirt top....yep, in the bathroom with a regular digital camera! But the weather is so pretty, and I love wearing it so I wanted to share.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmbYg7tyPHVHszOWEXXO9zKwG63PlVTOxE-D0YaUX8-kCYQkn4z5T0BZV9bMFcW2xXAmYpt5JFC5lSXUlEAhujFqhL3zyC9QS4TQ15q8p8WhHwmFU20N1eDae6HuBfnHUzUZwaCatROMcF/s1600/P3070003.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmbYg7tyPHVHszOWEXXO9zKwG63PlVTOxE-D0YaUX8-kCYQkn4z5T0BZV9bMFcW2xXAmYpt5JFC5lSXUlEAhujFqhL3zyC9QS4TQ15q8p8WhHwmFU20N1eDae6HuBfnHUzUZwaCatROMcF/s320/P3070003.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
I've entered March like a lion, roaring thru the first weekend and making 1 new top a day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday! They're all listed in the Etsy shop already, and I really think they're pretty and perfect for this time of year. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9picn1AoYZmuxQ2xQQBTEKq6lCReRNLpbUDk3pdvkgU4dnDfjhK5_fZ42DyfXO-8Cf_WztWBlOiJRvN64TFviT3OBwof2SDtUn72SX4mINjVYGdkCn0GVQOymK3GgZMX1-VDzd_YmJpR1/s1600/il_570xN.570796172_nsv7.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9picn1AoYZmuxQ2xQQBTEKq6lCReRNLpbUDk3pdvkgU4dnDfjhK5_fZ42DyfXO-8Cf_WztWBlOiJRvN64TFviT3OBwof2SDtUn72SX4mINjVYGdkCn0GVQOymK3GgZMX1-VDzd_YmJpR1/s320/il_570xN.570796172_nsv7.jpg" /></a><br />
This weekend I have GOT to clean, though! My bedroom & the inevitable upstairs bathroom are calling my name, so at least Saturday I'll be a no-show in the Art Barn. <br />

I got accepted into a <a href="http://www.columbuscraftacular.com/">really cool craft</a> show in May, so I've already started stacking up plushie <a href="http://redpantycrafts.blogspot.com/2013/04/working-and-loving-it.html">"skins" </a>to be sewn and stuffed for my booth. I'm also working on a new item since the show is right before Mother's Day; a sort of everlasting corsage from cashmere sweater scraps and vintage buttons. I'm messing around with the flower shape right now, but as they come together, I'll share!RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-35071717506455654072014-02-26T13:48:00.001-08:002014-02-26T13:53:34.982-08:00February Wrap-UpAs we near the end of February 2014, it occurs to me that despite my best couch potato efforts, I have actually accomplished several projects this month! Amazing, I know, but there you have it.<br />
<br />
Last night I finished knitting the first of a pair of socks, very pretty! I did FINALLY finish up my brother's Christmas pair of socks, but as they are serviceable black, I didn't photo them.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7yaFK1aJ-GK9bjxwgXkHiUbNy92NzBa2HbudIJpwjuwcqaoBRsva22UJKlccEGYx6GYhZwOmF6JlPnXBW1MIlWidLnHoKTr0Jvly9-ixANP9pEo_W4bNzGTeAhBgakO4eMyqxJVd-pqCo/s1600/P2250002.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7yaFK1aJ-GK9bjxwgXkHiUbNy92NzBa2HbudIJpwjuwcqaoBRsva22UJKlccEGYx6GYhZwOmF6JlPnXBW1MIlWidLnHoKTr0Jvly9-ixANP9pEo_W4bNzGTeAhBgakO4eMyqxJVd-pqCo/s320/P2250002.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
Yesterday I also whipped up a top for myself, I love it! I got some delicious woven stripe linen at Joanne's of all places....off white and "blackberry". Paired it with a 100% fine cotton knit sweater from the thrift; extra-small sized, ha! One sleeve is the button up front of the cardigan, and the other is the solid back. I had to radically piece them both, but totally worth it to incorporate the pretty silk chiffon trim from the button placket. I even dug out the roll hem foot for the Bernina, PRACTICED on a scrap (whaatt???) before hemming the bottom. I still need to finish the neckline with bias trim, but that won't take but a minute.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO7YXYePZ-YGyHDyBpeIu7ecgzDJ6KtU6s41fT0a0P86MGCfGb5bGF9OSIB1nJ8DNTrvZkT6xBnBSgSyjomnt-wAsHZV_-_Ve566oGIdos5Jofak8BIFfKDQCqnoRiKcmBcGVyiK83ruui/s1600/P2260003.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO7YXYePZ-YGyHDyBpeIu7ecgzDJ6KtU6s41fT0a0P86MGCfGb5bGF9OSIB1nJ8DNTrvZkT6xBnBSgSyjomnt-wAsHZV_-_Ve566oGIdos5Jofak8BIFfKDQCqnoRiKcmBcGVyiK83ruui/s320/P2260003.JPG" /></a><br />

Monday I did all the quilting on a new piece, inspired by a photo taken by musician Tim Perdue, who is making quite a name for himself about town as an excellent photographer. Very sensitive images, evocative. I had these blue "bricks" laid out on a stark white background, but apparently I really wasn't sold...a week ago a friend came to the Art Barn to play, and encouraged me to go with my plan to switch out the white for a gray color. She helped me lay out all the bricks & pin them down again.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv9BIBePL_kIqJz4RezjCcAvYdBBzRYY-tiKvr2J8_4ZU63RA7OWI9huCPg2TAMn29G513QozM8nXD8Cp-kXuTx-WGLoXiWAPy_zAYeGNkTi9xiyQBHWa5gkPcsuj_FD-DTSU9F4gJoXUO/s1600/P2260010.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv9BIBePL_kIqJz4RezjCcAvYdBBzRYY-tiKvr2J8_4ZU63RA7OWI9huCPg2TAMn29G513QozM8nXD8Cp-kXuTx-WGLoXiWAPy_zAYeGNkTi9xiyQBHWa5gkPcsuj_FD-DTSU9F4gJoXUO/s320/P2260010.JPG" /></a> And then....Monday I woke up and realized it was wrong! I had the bricks all lined up vertically, and they really cried out to be diagonal. So I took out all the pins, cut a few more bricks, laid it out, voila! Much better. The quilting is intended to evoke raindrops. I obviously need to bind it, and my plan is to then sew on many, many pearl buttons, like raindrops. Oh, did I mention? Every piece of fabric is from thrift shop clothing! <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivM4asd33DIhrDrYt6oDmiZ59q0_1d_HhlkpAzlVVlBCddQ12aywMzGPPDMYth_-dfKw_kStGQ9-UCguXVgtKgB_Q7c6bm4Pl6z1IAkwOGXFxiURcMMGX9llP0t4fTBxNKv9RPfPTbGH3j/s1600/P2260013.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivM4asd33DIhrDrYt6oDmiZ59q0_1d_HhlkpAzlVVlBCddQ12aywMzGPPDMYth_-dfKw_kStGQ9-UCguXVgtKgB_Q7c6bm4Pl6z1IAkwOGXFxiURcMMGX9llP0t4fTBxNKv9RPfPTbGH3j/s320/P2260013.JPG" /></a>Yep! and so are all the buttons I plan to use. I have been invited to display my work Spring 2015, particularly pieces from reclaimed textiles. So I'm concentrating on some new pieces that use more of those materials. It's really not difficult, given that I use them so regularly in the clothing I make. <br />
<br />
That same friend laughed while I sewed up some new Kashmere pets....foxes!! I think they're cute! I love it when I can find argyle cashmere, it gives each animal a distinct personality. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKl2p9C2ZnM0fR14-H3hfAoE9NthDu1ZrH2JLp61-nPYG0ds5njWkteNOLUu6HvhXPVs7Uh3k3c_P5Grelcc2zi85KmwZSK_RzqQDztLKW_5uuYHhh8lDCW2-bnzAItfXdKAZcslUNXdhR/s1600/P2200002+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKl2p9C2ZnM0fR14-H3hfAoE9NthDu1ZrH2JLp61-nPYG0ds5njWkteNOLUu6HvhXPVs7Uh3k3c_P5Grelcc2zi85KmwZSK_RzqQDztLKW_5uuYHhh8lDCW2-bnzAItfXdKAZcslUNXdhR/s320/P2200002+(2).JPG" /></a><br />

Enjoy the pics, as I start my second sock, and stay warm and cozy as March comes roaring in!RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-15731150247303917942014-01-24T08:15:00.001-08:002014-01-24T08:15:09.868-08:00Pinterest WIN!Yay! I love Pinterest, it has certainly lightened up my hard drive! I used to have an enormous bookmark list, and tons of random images in file folders, but no way to match them up and backtrack. Then Pinterest! <br />
<br />
I am fascinated, though, by the sites out there with Pinterest "fails"....lord knows I've got my own share of those! But I do have a "win" to share: re-growing veggies! <br />
<br />
I love romaine lettuce, esp the heads, rather than pre-torn salad bags. Snapple the kitty likes it too, she gets the wilty dark tips. So after pinning tips on re-growing produce yourself, I set the end of a bunch of romaine in a recycled lunchmeat container with a bit of water, and in 1 week: Voila! <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguk4lCxDlvsJTLU-5qKsyY9ZCsHG0tBuUOSzYKgGwycoxS9703HOEju0s9AegFqtafvmrk33Tu3efD5CoeSpBu6Zty3wyuibfTLbtMp37opuVXkM2LQzCwMp1rdqkXI3rYMZtOusE5Jp10/s1600/P1220001.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguk4lCxDlvsJTLU-5qKsyY9ZCsHG0tBuUOSzYKgGwycoxS9703HOEju0s9AegFqtafvmrk33Tu3efD5CoeSpBu6Zty3wyuibfTLbtMp37opuVXkM2LQzCwMp1rdqkXI3rYMZtOusE5Jp10/s320/P1220001.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
All that growth is in a week; I chopped it off with a knife, straight across! I think it's pretty awesome, and so far Snapple hasn't discovered it, or she'd be nibbling on it while I'm at work. I love seeing those cute little leaves!<br />

I did finish up some presents, and am still working on a few more (thank goodness my family all understand the madness that is handmade!)<br />
<br />
But I spent some time this past weekend in the Art Barn, and did accomplish a few things. I took apart a teeny little Talbots linen top, and now have 71 (yep, seventy-one) lovely pale coral "jewels" that I can use to embellish something new. I cut & sewed up 10 feet of linen bias binding, so that's all ready to go. And I still have some of the fabric left, to piece into a new creation. I'm thinking I'll probably use some of the jewels on something for the Dear Daughter, as she really likes and looks really lovely in that shade. It's always nice to have bias binding ready to use, in lots of colors, and when's the last time you saw linen binding? I think not ever in the big box stores!<br />

I also whipped up something for myself, because I just really needed to....a long raglan style top, with gray cashmere sweater sleeves and a man's fancy dress shirt for the body. Both were from the thrift store, and cost less than $7.00 total! The shirt was really cool; silvery gray, french cuffs and the front placket was meant for studs, but it came with the button tape that I just left in there. The best thing is the print: little champagne glasses, and the bubbles coming out of it are part of the year "2000"....obviously a New Year's Eve shirt for the millennium. The fabric is a jacquard, so the reverse is just as fun as the right side. I used the entire shirt, the sleeves are the darker panels in the back. I've since finished off the neckline edge, and it's ready to wear!<br />

I was gifted with 5 huge boxes of decorator fabric samples, just in the nick of time, since I gave away the last little zipper pouch in my stockpile.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_ajVgkLeo-1TVn1lneRXmqBb77q034bqnEUHP1W9JJw5NEK8-TAVYXjlRIMbXvyspKsRHcBR9XzQ1Zw_KL-fZbvbBAh7B1mPTp65O2iNISeOTNIdMyZL6Zy5_O_S-YmrNjLNicLCeXzmY/s1600/P9010001.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_ajVgkLeo-1TVn1lneRXmqBb77q034bqnEUHP1W9JJw5NEK8-TAVYXjlRIMbXvyspKsRHcBR9XzQ1Zw_KL-fZbvbBAh7B1mPTp65O2iNISeOTNIdMyZL6Zy5_O_S-YmrNjLNicLCeXzmY/s320/P9010001.JPG" /></a><br />
I use lots of the pouches myself, as a mini-sewing kit, as a change purse, you get the idea. I've been including them as a free gift whenever someone purchases a Red Panty clothing item from my Etsy shop, and I sent the last one out last week. But I've gone thru all the suitable fabrics I had, so I was just about to call up my interior designer friend and beg for samples, when out of the blue, someone emailed me to offer 5 giant boxes of fabrics for free! Snapped them up right away, they're great! <br />
<br />

Mom & I went through all five boxes, with the result being I'm left with about 3 boxes worth. So Saturday I spent most of the day in the Art Barn, cutting, sorting, sewing! I like the feeling of accomplishment when I'm done, seeing a tall stack of finished items. It's not art, nor brain surgery, but it is a satisfying moment! I made 26 little zipper pouches....why 26? Because I did not have 27 zippers! Ha! I did use up all the zippers I had in the correct size, though, every single one. Hardly made a dent in the pile of fabric, though. I ordered a new assortment of colors, 50 in all, online from China, so I'll be able to make some more soon. It was fun using up what I had; I noticed that alot of the zippers were "Vintage", some from the 1960's, some from the 70's. Others were upcycled, saved from the thrift shop clothing I use to create Red Panty clothing. So besides saving a bunch of nice fabric from the landfill, I also managed to use up stuff of my own!<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0cBXBf8CkO6BaOdG7OlsQSq9uNyVrZy0HlRD8_16vTaBsBYPRQxBOmWjKXBf4_gAkBFlPctS0lDvY-te590zQzzMW4hp3Jq-ItRtXZvC942twOJ2d4AQuWYywN5hBcvfsYLsLorm31URF/s1600/P9010003.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0cBXBf8CkO6BaOdG7OlsQSq9uNyVrZy0HlRD8_16vTaBsBYPRQxBOmWjKXBf4_gAkBFlPctS0lDvY-te590zQzzMW4hp3Jq-ItRtXZvC942twOJ2d4AQuWYywN5hBcvfsYLsLorm31URF/s320/P9010003.JPG" /><br />
<br />
I also finished 3 more D-Town Totes to place for sale in the Beehive Bookstore, and there's plenty of tote bag potential in that decorator fabric pile!<br />

Just in time for the Scioto Gardens Gardening & Arts Festival!<br />
<br />
The reversible duvet cover was just languishing in the Art Barn, black & cream check on one side, toile on the other. A couple of linen shirts for pockets and bias trim, and voila!<br />
<br />
I think they turned out really cute, and there are lots of times they would come in handy. I like the full coverage in the front, and the crossover back. I might need one of these when I'm painting or dyeing fabric; I don't like to get messy, and this would be practical!<br />

<br />
I did some gingko leaves for my mom, and she's already absconded with them!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSO_nbziYTgBVnNldd8KoM0gZNz5y_xAJh-oMXQrl9csa3gFB_-bk0uta4S2S194ecpMf_7w8U7sVsQkWF3Daj7KSQGoGAKGNccvsoM-SAWUKf8TkApArX0in8mhlfgI08JXWCDAKgny5b/s1600/chico+002.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSO_nbziYTgBVnNldd8KoM0gZNz5y_xAJh-oMXQrl9csa3gFB_-bk0uta4S2S194ecpMf_7w8U7sVsQkWF3Daj7KSQGoGAKGNccvsoM-SAWUKf8TkApArX0in8mhlfgI08JXWCDAKgny5b/s320/chico+002.jpg" /></a><br />
I also created some little doors; I've got some nice photos from Italy that I can combine these with, although some are sweet by themselves. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinMdXjbXUkD-xDsvgOTKuCzi0J_IHPQAbr8XTE7BowRU3Ypp2ZK85L3TSw5zOyCa_k3fP84KQhB3_c2u86HJdO9YUH3xpy4zqb7txeUNQN5btBxGJNlbnsBMz5ZVsBxWK15-rN42OuEAl-/s1600/chico+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinMdXjbXUkD-xDsvgOTKuCzi0J_IHPQAbr8XTE7BowRU3Ypp2ZK85L3TSw5zOyCa_k3fP84KQhB3_c2u86HJdO9YUH3xpy4zqb7txeUNQN5btBxGJNlbnsBMz5ZVsBxWK15-rN42OuEAl-/s320/chico+001.jpg" /></a><br />
I had a lot of fun creating my own stamp motifs in both positive and negative shapes, and cutting out lots of vinyl stickers to use as resists. Now to create some new quilts!<br />

This week I discovered a big fat ziplock FULL of charm squares sent to me eons ago by a great quilting friend, Anastasia (just like my own dear daughter, and HER daughter!). <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL5LMXrA9QXe066GyS3OyHK6y3CzONW0stShyphenhyphenZyqoqKzZdGJ2vbiNAUeg1vHp8d5Ts40m4OimeEj2HnxltbeNFuxunIFJcxY03HaCSWLRKADReq_JcysAfLRZLgh63UXLXtkkWlz66QeuV/s1600/2013+004.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL5LMXrA9QXe066GyS3OyHK6y3CzONW0stShyphenhyphenZyqoqKzZdGJ2vbiNAUeg1vHp8d5Ts40m4OimeEj2HnxltbeNFuxunIFJcxY03HaCSWLRKADReq_JcysAfLRZLgh63UXLXtkkWlz66QeuV/s320/2013+004.jpg" /></a><br />
Looking at all those tidy little stacks really took me back...different decade, different style of quilting, fabrics I remember and they don't make any more. They called out to be useful, so I spent the weekend sewing over half of them together. I finished 2 nice big blocks, one in mostly yellows and purples, the other brights. The rectangular bright block I think I will quilt up and sew into a nice tote bag. The yellow & purple block is asking for a nice dark border, possibly some more blocks or applique. Perhaps it will end up a lap quilt, more probably a wall hanging.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOJeNqq8wWMsj0iUwPzzjqlJtYDLRiySGhC4ggDErWYq-b42sUxiNjKxrx_jttYSoknV_I_D7QsoCba7AfBVfgvYWliskVN1A9_4mDIejtG-zN8RtHQLJa0LipXPaiFN4YdwDzTviBa6ME/s1600/2013+008.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOJeNqq8wWMsj0iUwPzzjqlJtYDLRiySGhC4ggDErWYq-b42sUxiNjKxrx_jttYSoknV_I_D7QsoCba7AfBVfgvYWliskVN1A9_4mDIejtG-zN8RtHQLJa0LipXPaiFN4YdwDzTviBa6ME/s320/2013+008.jpg" /><br />
I also pieced together a stack to be saved as a bright, random border for a project in the future...here they are all nicely pressed. Now they are neatly rolled and tucked into the drawer with other blocks that are waiting for their moment. It's nice to have a pieced border all ready to go, so when that urge hits me, I won't have to stop and fuss with it!<br />
<br />
Thank you so much for the sweet memories, Anastasia!</a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-ym_AevTM37muR9JXxH3YvoyGca173uME0xVPXDjjIXsouS9NPmMhHOsliQAImUlMDDJ8EiWZrAr6Ad54OehyY7I2QED4s3SGN2y0rxtwXR3VQsnLQaRf52pGvxOsvZIN1iEYOHVxLpYw/s1600/2013+007.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-ym_AevTM37muR9JXxH3YvoyGca173uME0xVPXDjjIXsouS9NPmMhHOsliQAImUlMDDJ8EiWZrAr6Ad54OehyY7I2QED4s3SGN2y0rxtwXR3VQsnLQaRf52pGvxOsvZIN1iEYOHVxLpYw/s320/2013+007.jpg" /></a>RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-34362135959732935782013-06-04T06:43:00.000-07:002013-06-04T06:43:07.900-07:00So I took a class....at QSDS last weekend! (<a href="http://www.qsds.com/">Quilt Surface Design Symposium</a>) with <a href="http://melanietesta.com/">Melanie Testa</a>. Very sweet instructor, great work, and we got stuff done.<br />
<br />
We were taught to use thickened dye to monoprint and stamp on soda-ash soaked cloth. I wish I had finished more, but 2 days just isn't very long! But it's so fun to go to QSDS; gets your creative juices flowing again, or pouring out of you if you weren't stuck.<br />
<br />
I still have some prepped blank fabric, and I brought home some of the gooey algaenate thickener, so I guess I need to do some more! It's a little messy, but that's what the Art Barn is for.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgysir1VcuMQyFQVCzLnHSiyls7vhW8SQ5628Cv9YMkLzWqmtUqwSAkW_-n8ixCv0ljpvubr-YggOMkwegp_flVCpCn1rvIEyrkT2LRjKNgivTaFxPXPeYzKQc6SE1Xuwp9uSS7fNzaQ08o/s1600/DSCN1978.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgysir1VcuMQyFQVCzLnHSiyls7vhW8SQ5628Cv9YMkLzWqmtUqwSAkW_-n8ixCv0ljpvubr-YggOMkwegp_flVCpCn1rvIEyrkT2LRjKNgivTaFxPXPeYzKQc6SE1Xuwp9uSS7fNzaQ08o/s320/DSCN1978.JPG" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZXw_PEQCOWCS3UBmTbWGSQDQ16mWylARK9W14HyAT1aGql3LrYgF4dZbnaACBT_GPZbt94_qNKIdF6q4osFuLa6uhHY7Ofn4M8sUrAmCJllKUEelBA3Ycs6kOheN7glgG3wdJQ3ivryok/s1600/qsds3.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZXw_PEQCOWCS3UBmTbWGSQDQ16mWylARK9W14HyAT1aGql3LrYgF4dZbnaACBT_GPZbt94_qNKIdF6q4osFuLa6uhHY7Ofn4M8sUrAmCJllKUEelBA3Ycs6kOheN7glgG3wdJQ3ivryok/s320/qsds3.jpg" /></a><br />
We had limited time, so we needed to stick to a single motif. I chose some gears; I cut some out of freezer paper to act as a resist, then I created my own positive and negative stamp with sticky back fun foam & acetate. Quick and easy techniques, and with more time and planning, I can imagine some really great results.<br />

<br />
and HERE is what happens when you use a ribbed sweater to try and make a lamb...the stretch is out of balance! I was so disappointed, and also it cracked me up, but I think it looks like a pink hammerhead shark! I debated just pulling the stuffing out and tossing the thing, but it's grown on me...I'm going to make a little shark face!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBohT_2acy99PSGkNyN5wLccHNgPMp57Dy4GpqDCG_pNpqgjuGKH1NyMngbfM4psukofh5jd_bpWcJ6eV9Raj1SNWH9HA1WYr7IG8OUQu0UxcDkWp0gzNxROcw2gF5sTq7anFwri1PKLGn/s1600/new+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBohT_2acy99PSGkNyN5wLccHNgPMp57Dy4GpqDCG_pNpqgjuGKH1NyMngbfM4psukofh5jd_bpWcJ6eV9Raj1SNWH9HA1WYr7IG8OUQu0UxcDkWp0gzNxROcw2gF5sTq7anFwri1PKLGn/s320/new+003.jpg" /></a>RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-63901255279897503562013-04-16T09:44:00.000-07:002013-04-16T09:44:17.523-07:00Working and loving it!Busy working in the gorgeous studio.....I have a pile of cashmere sweaters from the thrift shop all washed and ready!<br />
<br />
See the pile? so pretty! <br />

I'm scheduled to do some arts & crafts type festivals this May & July, so I'm concentrating right now on increasing my inventory of super-soft and cuddly Kashmere Kitties....not only are they cute, but they're environmentally-friendly!<br />
<br />
<br />
See the cut & sewn up "skins" that I made next?? They look a little creepy and forlorn like that, I know.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNQ9Ym-wdhydyI53KPiIECnFlVgAHRbFeo3RaPoo0LDubonU0I1luRIt90XA4hiYdZpL9IFM_uBtZU0N-CyA6Z9yAtJpKPQqkGoB8YinpKBgDI5pdZ9orEdlIPuW_FCQcWHTJbq-cdtuUB/s1600/DSCN1969.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNQ9Ym-wdhydyI53KPiIECnFlVgAHRbFeo3RaPoo0LDubonU0I1luRIt90XA4hiYdZpL9IFM_uBtZU0N-CyA6Z9yAtJpKPQqkGoB8YinpKBgDI5pdZ9orEdlIPuW_FCQcWHTJbq-cdtuUB/s320/DSCN1969.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
I've also drafted NEW patterns for cashmere plushness! I've got a pattern that doubles as either a lamb or a puppy (see the pink & blue skins lower left) and I re-patterned an Owl, mostly for Dear Daughter. That will be the argyle "skin" on the bottom right!<br />
<br />
Stay tuned, I'll post pics as I get them all stuffed and pretty!<br />

If we weren't sure where to put it, it ended up in the barn. Piles and stacks and bins, oh my! See the <a href="http://redpantycrafts.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html">Disaster Site</a>.<br />
<br />
I did finally get a bit of organization going, setting up a sewing area...see, it was my <a href="http://redpantycrafts.blogspot.com/2010/09/sewing-workspace-my-little-heaven.html">Little Slice of Heaven!</a><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUhPvakSZuOrW8qvamDyl3bJIa4KOSsPBTbXO5P00H4N5gDWNereAM8BQqr14K1hP2FaD9vLrPcbMQl6beWhJq1Ru3795DG8VlWYEvY2YMyqa5nE6RcScuYXrNzli8AGi5GJCRsEMeqMRI/s1600/rickey+008.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUhPvakSZuOrW8qvamDyl3bJIa4KOSsPBTbXO5P00H4N5gDWNereAM8BQqr14K1hP2FaD9vLrPcbMQl6beWhJq1Ru3795DG8VlWYEvY2YMyqa5nE6RcScuYXrNzli8AGi5GJCRsEMeqMRI/s320/rickey+008.jpg" /></a><br />
Well, things have REALLY changed! Last Black Friday-day after Thanksgiving, my baby brother pulled up with his truck & trailer and unloaded a ton of wood & tools. We built a loft! Or as he calls it, a mezzanine. It is gorgeous! Sturdy, BIG, proper stairs, tons of space for storage! <br />

Dear daughter & I spent the next 6 weeks hauling stuff to Goodwill, to the trash, organizing, emptying bags, boxes, tubs and bins. Hubby installed the new eco florescent fixtures baby brother gave me for Christmas, and a great shop fan. And now.....<br />
<br />
<br />
Unveiling the new & improved Art Barn!! There is a lovely seating area, with a coffee pot next to the furnace & fridge. There is Floor Space! There is organization! I actually KNOW where things are, and more importantly, can GET to them! Storage bins are upstairs, labelled. The only bins I still need to empty & organize are the fabrics, although those are semi-sorted already. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8su6GJAPCNUdrBrqjwGjbR24ftXHeqGTJ2Q7aiXC_A0OS_S0FJxvSRMsRqm6Jb5mrQ1jMClkEbWnskWYddptGAVGvTO2p1b6vd8X-NSCl9VXD0CcqXoc-0yexbIXi-dg0v3Y9bgoP_8ES/s1600/rickey+003.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8su6GJAPCNUdrBrqjwGjbR24ftXHeqGTJ2Q7aiXC_A0OS_S0FJxvSRMsRqm6Jb5mrQ1jMClkEbWnskWYddptGAVGvTO2p1b6vd8X-NSCl9VXD0CcqXoc-0yexbIXi-dg0v3Y9bgoP_8ES/s320/rickey+003.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Room for cutting tables, all the supplies sorted and grouped together, Ana has her own area, plenty of room to move stuff around! My jewelry bench is finally put back together. Okay, so that area still needs sorted out, but at least it's all in one place! Stereo equipment & speakers are hooked up, and the CDs are actually right next door. I can put things AWAY and find them again the next time! Room for visitors, classes, parties, it's so wonderful! <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhODd2BEBUjOId5sx9GrlKp9n6NVdu1aX91_B9sAQR0pLja5jt2LtVw4242WIwH_6My0DqHnAjcQ-YvWz26wFzkJ5JS6Z8LIpQxji1-LssF3I-JwzE86hDiHAGDBE4ujxbCVur0czJ7pJwY/s1600/rickey+013.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhODd2BEBUjOId5sx9GrlKp9n6NVdu1aX91_B9sAQR0pLja5jt2LtVw4242WIwH_6My0DqHnAjcQ-YvWz26wFzkJ5JS6Z8LIpQxji1-LssF3I-JwzE86hDiHAGDBE4ujxbCVur0czJ7pJwY/s320/rickey+013.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Yes, I have been working, although most of what I've been sewing are UFO's (Un-Finished Objects) getting them done and tagged & properly put away. It has been really great to work in the new space, and I kind of hate to mess it up! That pile of tubs in the back, near the overhead door?? Empty!! There are still a couple items that need to go to Goodwill (anyone want some GIANT speakers?) but my, it is so awesome!RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-33635071432030089132012-10-26T12:19:00.001-07:002012-10-26T12:19:24.982-07:00Smarty pants with no smart phoneI don't have a smart phone....I'm not really smart enough! But I have been fascinated with the cool-looking photos people post on Facebook, taken with Instagram. I like moody, misty, washed out, photos. Romantic, spooky, they just speak to me. But Instagram is only for Iphones, and I don't have any cool graphic design programs like Adobe or Photoshop, so what's a girl to do?<br />
<br />
My favorite tool that comes with PCs is the Microsoft picture manager program; I like it alot better than the Windows manager that comes up on my home PC; I end up opening Microsoft manager there, too. It's easy, basic, I feel like I can handle it! <br />
<br />
Sooooo.....I thought I'd explore a little more. I mean, I've used the tools to increase brightness, contrast, color on photos that I'm using for my Etsy shop, to enhance or correct. But I thought I would take it even further, and see what happens!<br />
<br />
So let me show you:<br />
<br />
Here is the original pic of my Kashmere Kitties, made from recycled thrift shop cashmere sweaters. I think it's sweet and endearing!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5WambUdOqoUKck5rnqs-fMjoTes7fP55mJdMikKvHMsF_XItorQZajnqVYCXgv9oAgmxEew05oQKjXO1zEFb7Ct6Ff-1UkQuvnjU8ArmAymGVccFg2aTbGufh_alIbjBgqoDtmkmzJehq/s1600/small1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear:right; float:right; margin-left:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="240" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5WambUdOqoUKck5rnqs-fMjoTes7fP55mJdMikKvHMsF_XItorQZajnqVYCXgv9oAgmxEew05oQKjXO1zEFb7Ct6Ff-1UkQuvnjU8ArmAymGVccFg2aTbGufh_alIbjBgqoDtmkmzJehq/s320/small1.JPG" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
and Here is the pic with a bunch of the contrast and color taken out.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDcH1cMfli3CeFeMb3oQGPv4L-vc2O6V4y6w9zceOGrbS5T42d8ib1tJY3Tf6QsLctlYW9ReVh7AbOJsNDZv1TPJXTkkR5ONAwyZYOWLBmoZ1of4kKb8A5tNTGTMkx7M60Fr0lgr3oHV45/s1600/in3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear:right; float:right; margin-left:1em; margin-bottom:1em"><img border="0" height="240" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDcH1cMfli3CeFeMb3oQGPv4L-vc2O6V4y6w9zceOGrbS5T42d8ib1tJY3Tf6QsLctlYW9ReVh7AbOJsNDZv1TPJXTkkR5ONAwyZYOWLBmoZ1of4kKb8A5tNTGTMkx7M60Fr0lgr3oHV45/s320/in3.JPG" /></a></div>And the Last shot, I took the washed out version, and slid the hue and intensity over to the blue side! I think I like the middle version; it reminds me of a black and white photo with just a shot of color! <br />
<br />
Ha! Now I can instagram, too!<br />
RedPantieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04625440993681998349noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1700248742070894001.post-39476786540000798252012-09-22T20:03:00.000-07:002012-09-22T20:03:25.044-07:00First day of Autumn (where did my summer go?)I don't know about you, but it almost seems as though I completely missed this summer. June went by in a blur, July was a week long, and I don't even remember there being an August! And now, it is Equinox, and the leaves are falling, and I dumped out my leggy petunia pots to get ready for pumpkins.<br />
<br />
I have been busy, though, and it looks like I'll be stitching night and day from now until New Year's!<br />
<br />
Beehive Bookstore is now selling "D-Town Totes...locally made bags for local folks"; yes, Red Panty tote bags, mostly made from scraps of upholstery fabrics given to me by an interior designer friend.<br />
<br />
December First Friday here in town will be the opening night of a joint art effort between myself and supremely talented Cyrus Fire. I'm created plushies based on his paintings. The first is a character he painted as a label for a new, local beer brewer. Evil Cupcake Ale! See the pointy teeth?? See the disgruntled cherry on top?? Bad cupcake! I'm going to sneak some of my own plushies into the show, too, especially the Li'l Devils and Ghost Kitties. Maybe they will feast on zombie santa??<br />
<br />
<br />
