Columbus Jazz & Rib Fest - Me! Singing!

So, I've had a few requests for photos of me with Honk, Wail and Moan at the Columbus Jazz & Rib Festival. Of course I didn't take them, but my good friend Lydia did. I didn't post them earlier, because frankly I look ridiculous!! But hey, all in good fun, right??

Ohio Arts Council application - Submit!

So, I have finished my online application to the Ohio Arts Council for an Individual Creativity grant in the Design category, for my Red Panty Designs clothing! I still have to hit the "submit" button, though. Is it dumb that I'm nervous?? Really, what's the worst they can say...No! That's it, I'm sure they won't actually call me up to laugh at me where I can hear it!

I've still got to finish my swatches, sketches, design photos to mail in, but that won't take long. It's nice that I've got so many finished pieces to work from, but I realized that I don't save every single scrap, if they aren't big enough to be usable. So swatching is becoming a challenge!

Here are a few photos I've submitted with my application. My daughter is modelling some of the clothes.

It was really exciting; last Friday at the Museum, we hosted the Main Street Delaware's wine tasting event. They are the business organization for our downtown merchants. Very nice party. Anyway, I noticed a cute woman wearing one of my tops!! I didn't know her, either! I sidled up and complimented her, and she started to tell me where she'd bought it. I admitted, I was the artist. She was very sweet, she'd bought TWO of the tops!! Yay!

Busy, busy week! Bicentennial Delaware city exhibit!

This week I am pulling out my hair to get the first exhibits of the fall up and running at the Ross Museum. Luckily, the director is out of state, so it's just me and the other assistant, but it is a lot of work!!

Today's Wednesday, and I have 1 of 3 shows up and finished; Linda Wesner is a local artist who does work in colored pencil and acrylics/oils, of scenes around Delaware County. Did I mention, this exhibit is for the Bicentennial of Delaware County and City. So I have 3 concurrent exhibits planned: Vintage Quilts of Delaware County, which coincides with the annual meeting of the American Quilt Study Group in October. Disappearing Landscapes of Delaware County by Linda, which coincides with the fact that Delaware County is one of the fastest growing counties in the country!! (As well as one of the top counties for home foreclosures!) and Remembering Delaware; Memorabilia from the city itself, featuring a lot of old photos, some old business signs that were rescued from demolitions over the years, stuff like that.

Right now I'm just feeling a bit overwhelmed, since my daughter will be going off to college next Tuesday, and I'll be taking her, and the shows open next Thursday! Ack!!

more Vermont!!

So, I love Vermont, have I mentioned that?? I started visiting about 10 years ago, I guess, though it doesn't seem possible it could be that long. My friends are funny and generous; aren't they cute?

My friends share their cabin with me and my daughter; it's on a beautiful lake at the top of a mountain, heavenly!!

This year, I dashed over to Concord, New Hampshire to meet a friend at the Elegant Ewe, a really lovely yarn shop. While I was there, I bought 2 skeins of Plymouth Royal Llama Silk, one in lime green for my mom, one in a very pretty blue. You got a free pattern with each purchase, and this is what it made:
They took EXACTLY one skein, I had about 3 feet leftover!! I'm giving these to my daughter, she loves the shade of blue, and I just bought myself a skein of fuschia to make my own!

I also worked on my Shell Tank from the Knitting Nature book by Norah Gaughan, I got most of the sections finished, and was about 1/3 the way through the green cable section when I came back home. I just finished all the sewing and weaving ends in today!! I like how it turned out; I lengthened the body 1" overall, because I don't want to scare people off with a glimpse of my belly, it's not nearly as pretty as the model in the book!

Me and my Kitty

It's always hard to get a nice photo of my cat, because she is either fast asleep, running around like an antelope, or gets the "crazy" red eye reflection!! But, here is a sweet photo of Snapple and I. The corner of the couch is "my" spot, and in the evening, you can tell she's anxious for me to sit there and knit, read or watch TV. She likes to dangle her toes so they juuuuust touch my head. Sometimes she'll become upset if you touch her, other times, that's what she wants!

Recycled Sweater, part Deux!

So, here is the second recycled sweater I made. I used the body of a black sweater, added the bottom of the blue one from July's post, and used more of the plaid linen shirt to trim it, make a closure, and add a swingy pleat to the back!! I love how it turned out!
